Cathaleen (Cathy) Blake, LPC-MHSP (she/her)
About Alongside You Counseling
Cathy is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and received her Master's Degree in Adult Mental Health Counseling at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2012.
Early in her career, she relocated to Houston, Texas, where she had the opportunity to gain specialized training working in the field of eating disorder treatment at multiple levels of care (Residential, Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP)). Treating eating disorders and challenging toxic cultural messages about food, movement and bodies is still a passion of hers today.
In 2018 Cathy moved to the Tri-Citites where she and her family happily call home. Cathy expanded her training and skills. In March of 2020 she attended a 40 hour Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) intensive training. She is currently in consultation in pursuit of becoming EMDR certified. Cathy also received intensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and spent time as the Clinical Director of a DBT-IOP. She left that position to start her own practice, and in February 2023 opened Alongside You Counseling.
She continues training in the field of trauma treatment and incorporates Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, DBT Skills into her work with clients. Cathy is interested in the spiritual and mystical healings of psychedelic therapies. She has recently started a training journey in this field as well. She is excited to announce how this modality will be applied in her therapeutic practice, so stay tuned for that announcement.
Cathy considers herself a lifetime learner. She is dedicated to her own continued inner work and a lifelong pursuit of expanding her consciousness. For fun, Cathy enjoys being an NC State Wolfpack fan (affiliated by marriage) especially women's basketball. She loves being in water, especially the ocean, as well as music and dance. Cathy has two young children and she and her family love hiking in the beautiful mountains of East Tennessee.
